Any member of the British Sky Broadcasting group may use and share, within that group, the information you provide and other information it holds about you for the purposes set out below.

Information we may hold about you

• Your IP address (this is a number that identifies a specific network device on the internet and is required for your device to communicate with websites).

How we may use your information

In addition to using your information to provide you with requested products or services and general account management and the management of traffic across our network, Sky may also use your information in the following ways:

• To monitor and improve Sky products, services and websites
• We may share information with credit reference and fraud prevention agencies for use in credit decisions, and for fraud detection and prevention purposes.
• If false or inaccurate information is provided and fraud is identified, the details will be passed to fraud prevention agencies. Law enforcement agencies may access and use this information. We and other organisations may also access and use this information to prevent fraud and money laundering, for example when: checking details on applications for credit and credit related or other facilities; managing credit and credit related accounts and facilities; recovering debt; checking details on proposals and claims for all types of insurance; or checking details of job applications and employees. You can opt out of direct marketing altogether or you can choose between post, telephone and email. Sky Bet, Sky Poker, Sky Vegas and Sky Bingo customers can opt out of marketing SMS messages by replying "STOP"

Personalisation (including tailored advertising) You can opt out by calling us on 08442 41 41 41 or via your My Sky account. Please note that if you opt out of personalisation you will not receive tailored advertising. This means you will still see the same number of adverts but they will be ones that appear as standard.

What are cookies and how do they work?

Cookies are small bits of text that are downloaded to your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Your browser sends these cookies back to the website on each subsequent visit so the website can recognise you and can then tailor what you see on the screen.

What does Sky use cookies for?

Cookies are a key part of the internet. They make your interactions with websites much smoother and power lots of the useful features of websites. There are many different uses for cookies, but they fall into four main groups:

Cookies that are required to provide the service you have requested

Some cookies are essential in order to enable you to move around the web site and use its features. Without these cookies, services you have asked for can't be provided. These cookies don't gather information about you that could be used for marketing or remembering where you've been on the internet.

• Keeping you logged in during your visit (without cookies you might have to log in on each and every page you go to).

Improving your browsing experience

Analytics
Sky likes to keep track of what pages and links are popular and which ones don't get used so much to help us keep our sites relevant and up to date. It's also very useful to be able to identify trends of how people navigate through our sites and if they get error messages from web pages.

This group of cookies, often called “analytics cookies” are used to gather this information. These cookies don't collect information that identifies a visitor. The information collected is anonymous and is grouped with the information from everyone else’s cookies. Sky can then see the overall patterns of usage rather than any one person’s activity. Analytics cookies only record activity on the site you are on and they are only used to improve how a web site works.

Some of Sky’s websites and some of the emails you might get from Sky also contain small invisible images known as "web beacons" or "tracking pixels". These are used to count the number of times the page or email has been viewed and allows Sky to measure the effectiveness of its marketing and emails. These web beacons are anonymous and don't contain or collect any information that identifies you.

Sky also uses "affiliate" cookies. Some of Sky’s web pages will contain promotional links to other companies’ sites. If you follow one of links and then register with or buy something from that other site, a cookie is sometimes used to tell that other site that you came from a Sky site. That other site may then pay Sky a small amount for the successful referral. This works using a cookie.

Showing advertising that is relevant to your interests

Sky sells space on some of its sites to advertisers. The resulting adverts often contain cookies. The advertiser uses the browsing information collected from these cookies for two purposes:

• To restrict the number of times you see the same ad (frequency capping), and
• To help show other ads that are relevant to you while you're on Sky websites. This is often called online behavioural advertising (OBA). OBA is a way of using information about your web browsing activity, collected through the use of cookies, to group you with other users into interest groups and show you advertisements based on those interests. The OBA data collected from cookies you get when you're on Sky sites is only used to show relevant ads on Sky sites, not on other websites.

Sometimes our websites contain ads for our own Sky products. These ads use cookies in the same way as described above.

So how does OBA work? Let's look at an example. Imagine you visit a website about travel. That website shows an advert and with that advert you receive a cookie. Imagine you then visit a Sky website which has an advert from the same advertiser you saw on the travel site. The advertiser will give you a new version of the cookie you received on the travel site. The advertiser can then use that cookie to recognise that you have previously been to a travel site and show you a relevant ad.

Although the OBA data collected uses your browsing activity to understand your interests, the data is anonymous and isn’t linked to you as a person. Even if you log in to Sky’s websites, the OBA data is still not linked to you or your Sky profile/subscription.

Neither Sky, nor the companies who show ads on Sky sites sell data collected from cookies to any third parties.

It’s easy to opt out of behavioural advertising and manage your cookies if you want to.

These Terms and Conditions shall apply to Your use of the website located at http://www.Sky.com and its related channels ("the Sky Site"). 

By using the Sky Site You agree to be bound by the terms and conditions set out below. If You do not wish to be bound by these terms and conditions, You should not use the Sky Site. 

We may change these Terms and Conditions from time to time and so you should check these regularly. Your use of the Sky Site will be deemed an acceptance of the terms existing at that time. 

As part of our commitment to ensuring the Sky Site is one You want to visit time and time again, We welcome your comments on any of the policies or rules set out below. Contact Sky.

  
 1. Definitions

"You" means you, the user of the Sky Site and "Your" shall be interpreted accordingly. "We/Us" means British Sky Broadcasting Limited of Grant Way, Isleworth, Middlesex TW7 5QD (except in sections 6 and 11) and "Our" shall be interpreted accordingly. "Sky Site" shall have the meaning as set out above. "User Information" means the personal details, which may be provided by You to Us via the Sky Site. "Users" means the users of the Sky Site collectively and/or individually as the context admits. "Website" means a site on the World Wide Web. 
 

2. Acceptable Use

You agree that any use by You of the Sky Site shall be in accordance with the following conditions: 
2.1 You will not post or transmit through the Sky Site any defamatory, threatening, obscene, harmful, pornographic or otherwise illegal material or material which would violate or infringe in any way upon our rights or those of others (including intellectual property rights, rights of confidentiality, or rights of privacy) or cause distress or inconvenience. You must not express opinions that are vulgar, crude, sexist, racist, unproven or unfounded allegations (especially of wrongdoing) or otherwise offensive. Always treat other Users with respect. 
2.2 You must not upload, post, or otherwise transmit any content that includes any of the following inappropriate content: 
     a) Any personal information belonging either to wither You or another person, such as full name, address, phone number, email address; 
     b) Spam, such as advertisements for other web sites and services, or other commercial solicitation; chain letters, pyramid schemes, polls or petitions; 
     c) Flooding the forum boards with excessive posts, meaningless posts, posts unrelated to the topic or padding posts; 
     d) Discussions that veer off topic, are unrelated to resolving the issue at hand, are repetitive or campaigning, that promote products or services from other providers, or abuse any company or product; 
     e) Repetitive or continuous complaints about Sky policy; 
     f) Discussions of moderator actions on the boards. If you need to comment on a moderator action, please private message any administrator/moderator; 
     g) Posting or transmitting any information or software containing a virus, worm, Trojan horse, or other damaging or destructive component; 
     h) Posting a link directing users to any information or content that, if posted on the Site would constitute a violation of the Guidelines or Terms of Use. Sky is not responsible for the content of any third party websites and users use of any hypertext links posted on the forum at their own risk. 
     i) Attacks, including "Flaming", of another user in such a way as to incite or perpetuate arguments or conflict; creating usernames to attack other users' identities; impersonating other individuals or falsely representing one's identity or qualifications; posts made under secondary user names or other aliases for the purpose of either endorsing or denigrating others; posts that breach any participant's privacy by including name, address, phone, email address, or any other identifying information. 
     j) Include URLs of third party websites which may contain offensive or illegal material 
     k) Postings that break the law, or encourage/support breaking the law. This includes libel, contempt of court and breach of copyright. 
     l) Discussions regarding active UK court cases 
     m) Advice that would result in a breach of any Sky product or equipment warranties. 
     n) Advice that would result in a breach of Sky subscription terms & conditions. 
     o) Advice that if followed could result in bodily injury or harm. 
2.3 You must not evade bans or suspensions or otherwise disregard directions from moderators or administrators. 
2.4 You agree not to use the Site (or any part of it) to: 
     a) Solicit personal information, email addresses, contact information, passwords or other personally identifying information 
     b) Solicit participation in public discussion, debate, comment or activity outside this Site; 
     c) Provide false or misleading information about yourself or your business, or create a false identity or use or attempt to use another’s account or identity (including for the purposes of accessing My Sky functionality – see Section 10). 
2.5 We reserve the right to manage the postings on the Sky Communities to provide an orderly presentation of this information. To effectively manage the site, Sky may designate employees or others to act as moderators and administrators for the site ("Moderators"). These Moderators are the only representatives of Sky that are authorised to manage the Sky Communities. Any Sky employees who are not designated as Moderators or Employees are not authorised to represent themselves on the site as Sky employees. Authorised Sky Employees are distinguished by the Rank of "Employee" and/or an official Sky logo as an Avatar. Sky is not responsible for content provided by any Sky employee who is not designated as a Moderator or an Employee. 
2.6 You will not post or otherwise make available on the Sky Site any material, which You do not own without the express permission of the owner of the material. 
2.7 You will not copy, download, reproduce, republish, frame, broadcast, transmit in any manner whatsoever, any material on the Sky Site except as is strictly necessary for Your own personal non-commercial home use. 
2.8 You will not access the Sky Site by automated means or otherwise for the purposes of scraping, extracting, or otherwise obtaining any material from the Sky Site (including TV listings) for use within a third party Website or application. 
2.9 You will abide by the specific rules of any competition or promotion that You participate in on or via the Sky Site. Unless we tell you otherwise, all prize draws and competitions offered via the Sky Site are not open to people resident outside the United Kingdom. 
2.10 You will not do anything that affects the operability or security of the Sky Site or causes unreasonable inconvenience or offence or disruption to our staff. 
 

3. Third Party Websites

3.1 You acknowledge and agree that We are not responsible for the availability of any third party Websites or material You access through the Sky Site. 
3.2 We do not endorse and shall not be held responsible or liable for any content, advertising, products or services on or available from such Websites or material. 
3.3 Any dealings between You and any third party advertisers or merchants found on or via the Sky Site, including payment for and delivery of products, services and any other terms, conditions, warranties or representations associated with such dealings, are made between You and the relevant advertiser or merchant. Therefore, We are not responsible or liable for any loss or damage of any kind incurred as the result of any such dealings. Where You purchase goods or services directly from Us, section 11 of these terms and conditions will apply. 
 

4. Intellectual Property

4.1 All copyright, trademarks and all other intellectual property rights in all material or content supplied as part of the Sky Site shall remain at all times vested in Us or Our licensors. You are permitted to use this material or content only as expressly authorised in writing by Us or Our licensors. You will not, and You will not assist or facilitate any third party to, copy, reproduce, transmit, distribute, frame, commercially exploit or create derivative works of such material or content. 
4.2 If You become aware of any such distribution or commercial exploitation, You agree to notify Us immediately. 
4.3 You acknowledge that by posting materials on the Sky Site You grant to Us and Our licensors and assigns an irrevocable, perpetual, royalty free, worldwide licence to use the materials both within the Sky Site and in any other manner. The licence extends to copying, distributing, broadcasting, and otherwise transmitting, and adapting and editing the materials. 
 

5. Liability for and information provided on the Sky Site

5.1 Material which is posted on any bulletin boards or chat forums is written by Users and We are not responsible for and do not endorse such material. We reserve the right to monitor the contributions made and may respond to or comment upon communications made by You and edit, refuse to post, or remove any content from the bulletin boards and chat forums in our absolute discretion. No failure to remove particular material constitutes an endorsement or acceptance of it by Us. 
5.2 We will not be held responsible or liable for the content, accuracy, timing or reliability of any information or statements contained within the Sky Site, or for statements, advice and/or opinions made or given by Users on the bulletin boards and chat forums (except as required by law). If You have any claim arising from the actions or statements of another User, You agree to pursue such a claim only against that User and not from Us. 
5.3 We will endeavour to provide the Sky Site using all reasonable care. Except as required by law, We will not be responsible or liable for the quality, accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose of the Sky Site and do not promise that the material contained in the Sky Site, or any of the functions contained in the Sky Site or its server will operate without interruption or delay or will be error free, free of viruses or bugs or is compatible with any other software or material. 
5.4 We will be liable for any fraudulent misrepresentations We make and for any death or personal injury caused by Our negligence. We will not be responsible or liable to You for any other loss or damage that You or any third party may suffer as a result of using or in connection with Your use of the Sky Site. 
 

6. Safety

We give Our on-going commitment to ensuring through Our policy of safety that You can use the Sky Site with confidence. When using the Sky Site, in particular any bulletin boards or chat forums, You should always take the following precautions: 
6.1 keep Your identity private. Do not give out Your full name, postal address, telephone number, e-mail address, the name of Your school or any other information (other than that specifically requested by Us), that could help someone discover Your actual identity; 
6.2 never meet with someone You meet online. 
6.3 do not reply to any messages that are hostile, rude or inappropriate, or in any way make You feel uncomfortable. 
 

7. Indemnity

If you are a business User, You agree to indemnify Us, and/or any of Our affiliates and Our and their officers, directors and employees, immediately on demand, against all claims, liability, damages, costs and expenses, including legal fees, arising out of any breach of these terms and conditions by You or any other liabilities arising out of Your use of the Sky Site. 
 

8. Termination

We reserve the right immediately to terminate Your use of the Sky Site if You breach or We have reasonable grounds to believe that You are likely to breach these terms and conditions or You otherwise engage in conduct which We determine in Our sole discretion to be unacceptable. 
 

9. Feedback

Should You wish to make any comments to Us about the Sky Site or if You have any questions relating to the same please contact Us using the Feedback Form on the Sky Site. 
 

10.My Sky

Section 10 applies to visitors to the My Sky section of Sky.com in addition to the terms and conditions which precede and follow this section. Attention is drawn in particular to paragraph 2 (acceptable use) and paragraph 5 (liability for information provided on the Sky site) above. 

 10.1 Registration etc.

In order to participate in parts of My Sky, registration is required. You must be a Sky digital subscriber in order to register as the primary user but can nominate guest users provided they are part of the same household and they consent. To register as the primary user, you are required to provide us with accurate and complete details including your viewing card number. You must also choose a user name and password. Any guest user you nominate must also provide a user name and password which must be different to that of the primary user. 
 

10.2 User name and password

When choosing a user name, a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 40 alphanumerical characters must be used. URLs, Domain Names, underscores, full stops and any of the following characters -=[];'#,./!"£$%^&*()+{}:@~<>? must not be used. 

When choosing a password a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 25 characters including both alphanumeric characters and must be used without any spaces. It is advisable not to use obvious dictionary words e.g. password or consecutive numbers or letters or obvious personal information such as children's name, pet's names or date of birth. Password should not be the same as the username, name or email address and should not be re-used when choosing a new password. 

Each registered user is responsible for the security and proper use of their user name and password and must not disclose either to any third party (whether directly, via a Website or application interface or otherwise). It is each registered user's responsibility to change their password immediately if they believe it has been compromised. It is also advisable to change these details frequently even if not considered compromised. 
 

10.3 Termination or suspension

We may suspend or terminate a user's My Sky registration if these terms and conditions are breached, in particular paragraph 2 (acceptable use). 
 

11. General

 11.1 Invalidity etc.

If any court or regulator decides that any provision of these terms and conditions is invalid or otherwise unenforceable, such provisions shall be severed and deleted from these terms and conditions and the remainder of these terms and conditions shall continue to have full force and effect.

 11.2 Governing Law

These terms and conditions and the Sky Site are governed by English law. Disputes can be dealt with by the English courts.

 11.3 Third Party Rights

These terms and conditions apply between Us and Users. No other person is entitled to benefit under these Terms and Conditions.

Debenhams partners with Sky IQ to create a single customer view

Customer intelligence specialist Sky IQ has signed a deal with Debenhams to build a single customer view as part of the retailer’s efforts to provide better service and more targeted and effective marketing campaigns to the millions of shoppers who visit its stores every month.

Sky IQ, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sky, will build Debenhams a single customer view to enable the retailer to better track shoppers’ usage patterns and recognise when a customer logs in across multiple channels. This system will be accessible and viewable by all Debenhams’ marketing and customer service teams, helping to minimise the potential for silos while ensuring that all opportunities are covered.

The number of marketing channels for retailers to consider is increasing very rapidly with customers using mobile and social networks to share opinions, shop online and research purchases more than ever before. Debenhams is focusing its efforts on using this data to gain more accurate information about its customers’ activities and behavioural patterns across all of these channels.

Sky now receiving viewing information from more than 500,000 Sky homes

Sky has announced that it has created a viewing panel of more than 500,000 Sky homes across the UK, providing greater insight into the viewing behaviours and preferences of Sky customers.

The new viewing panel will improve Sky’s understanding of the content and products that its customers most appreciate. The information it provides will also enable Sky’s customer intelligence experts Sky IQ to work with advertisers to gain a better understanding of how to reach their target audiences and analyse the effectiveness of specific TV advertising campaigns. The Sky viewing panel is designed to complement intelligence gathered from the existing BARB panel with information anonymised and aggregated at a household level.

In addition, the viewing information provided by Sky IQ will help form the basis of Sky AdSmart, a tailored advertising system that Sky’s advertising sales house Sky Media is developing for launch next year. Based on utilising a range of different audience segments identified by Sky IQ, Sky AdSmart will help deliver advertising that is more relevant to Sky customers.

Sky IQ was initially set up in 2010 as a joint venture with data specialists Experian, and from 2011 has been fully owned by Sky. It has worked extensively with Sky’s Sales and Marketing Group to improve marketing effectiveness, helping Sky reach its target of 10 million homes in the UK & Ireland by the end of 2011 and of becoming the UK's number 1 “triple-play” provider. Services Sky IQ provided to help Sky reach these milestones included using a detailed understanding of consumers to drive all customer interactions and employing a consolidated view of consumer behaviour as the basis for decision-making. Sky IQ also works for a wide range of third-party clients, including Molson Coors, Debenhams and Ladbrokes.

As announced this week, Channel 4 will start working with Sky IQ as part of a wider agreement with Sky. Under the terms of the deal, Channel 4 will receive insight and analysis from Sky IQ about viewing of Channel 4’s content across Sky's platforms. Channel 4 will receive anonymised and aggregated viewing information, helping it to understand its audiences better, with particular focus on how, when and where Channel 4 content is consumed.

Ladbrokes announces Sky IQ as a specialist partner

Ladbrokes plc today announces that it has appointed Sky IQ as a specialist partner in customer intelligence services.  Sky IQ will bring additional resource and expertise to enhance Ladbrokes' capability in customer analytics, campaign effectiveness, and Customer Relationship Management (“CRM”).

Sky IQ’s remit will cover, digital, mobile and retail channels, though it is intended that digital will be a key area of focus.  Sky IQ has a proven leadership in delivering strategic CRM capabilities across a range of sectors, including gaming.

Ladbrokes CEO Richard Glynn commented, “The agreement with Sky IQ is a further step along our digital development plan. Sky IQ unveils innovative suite of marketing insight services

Consumer insight experts Sky IQ today unveiled an innovative portfolio of products and services aimed at helping brands better understand and market to potential customers. The services are designed to deliver Sky IQ clients data-led and actionable insights to help effectively tackle consumer engagement challenges and optimise marketing spend.
Sky IQ is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sky, having originally launched as a joint venture between Sky and the data services company Experian. Sky IQ raises £12,000 for Great Ormond Street

Great Ormond Street Hospital is the largest paediatric neurosciences centre in the UK. It is an internationally recognised centre of excellence. However, some of the equipment and buildings are in need of updating to increase the level of care available to children with conditions affecting their brain, head, and central nervous system.  Currently, the neurosciences team at Great Ormond Street Hospital treats 8,000+ children and undertakes 800 neurosurgery operations every year. The new Centre for Neurosciences will treat up to 20 per cent more children.

The team at Sky IQ completed a range of fundraising activities from bake sales to golf days to triathlons. They also invaded St Pancras station to shake buckets dressed as jungle animals while the jungle runners and staff from Sky IQ ran marathons on treadmills in the station concourse.

12 bake sales, 1 golf day, 24 auction prizes, 4 triathlon teams, 10 mobile phones and 3 days of bucket shaking and a generous team amounted in over £12,000 towards GOSH.

Darren and Arron made it back in one piece after a gruelling challenge and have also been fundraising for GOSH.

All money raised contributes to the Koala Ward, which is a state-of-the-art new Centre for Neurosciences at Great Ormond Street Hospital. We are greatly appreciative and thankful to all our supporters and we look forward to seeing the fantastic benefits of the Koala Ward at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Sky IQ report reveals marketers’ appetite for new ways of proving ROI in a multi-channel world

The report, Marketing attribution in a multi-channel world, reveals that three quarters of the marketers questioned say they don’t have the tools to track sales from all of the marketing channels they use. Exactly half of those surveyed say they do not know which channel the customer has been most strongly influenced by, and 46% say that the sheer number of channels available makes the process of tracking sales more difficult.

The pressure to prove return on investment is heightened by the fact that nearly one in three (29%) of the marketers surveyed work in an environment where marketing teams specialising in specific disciplines - such as TV, online or print - compete against each other for budget, making it even more important to be able to track sales by channel.

The survey also reveals that on average, the companies surveyed in the report use six channels in their marketing mix, with half of the sample employing seven or more.  While online is the most commonly used channel – employed by 76% of respondents - traditional marketing channels are still heavily relied upon, with 71% of the companies using print advertising, 61% continuing to use direct mail and 56% attending exhibitions and conferences to drive business.

Hertfordshire Officers hope to raise thousands for charity

PC Darren Clawson and PC Arron Worbey, who are based at Stevenage police station, are being supported by customer intelligence organisation Sky IQ.

In October they will run what is considered to be one of the toughest foot races in the world called the Jungle Marathon.  They will run 225km through the Amazon Jungle in temperatures over 110 Fahrenheit across six days. One section of the race equates to two marathons. They will have to contend with the local wildlife, such as jaguars, poisonous spiders and snakes and giant ticks, the humidity will hit the mid 90s.  Participants also have to carry everything they need to survive during the race apart from water although they will be supported by Claire Gubby who is a senior nurse at GOSH and is attending as the team medic.

Darren, whose son Hadley receives treatment at GOSH, said: “The hospital does some fantastic work and we are proud to be involved in fundraising for such an amazing charity. We are looking to raise the money to help fund a specialist new ward and we are organising a number of fundraising events to help reach our total. At St Pancras we will be covering 90kms on treadmills in the station.”

The event will take place between 11.30am and 7.30pm on the station concourse near the shops and donations will be collected on the day. Darren and Arron will be joined by nine volunteers, who will run 10kms each alongside them.

Arron said: “We have been training for almost a year and we are getting a lot of support not only from our friends and family but from GOSH and Sky IQ. For this event we are extremely grateful to British Transport Police for letting us use the station and to Life Fitness who have provided the treadmills.”

Whilst running the Jungle Marathon, the officers will be filming every step they take thanks to sponsorship by Kodak who have provided them with specialist equipment.

They will also be fundraising locally at Nuffield Health wellbeing centre in Letchworth on September 24.
